Tama-Ariki is part of Oranga Tamariki's Enabling Communities programme — a Māori-led approach developed and delivered by Tai Timu Tai Pari.
Enabling Communities is an Oranga Tamariki initiative that shifts decision-making and delivery out to local, community-led and Māori-led organisations — trusting the people closest to whānau to shape the support they need.
Tama-Ariki is an Enabling Communities prototype for Whangārei and Te Kaipara: a kaupapa developed and led by Tai Timu Tai Pari, with the backing and investment of Oranga Tamariki.
This investment enables a community-led, early intervention model that collectivises Māori and community providers across Whangarei and Te Kaipara to deliver better outcomes for tamariki while reducing pressure on statutory services.
