Te Ātea Hub

A place to kōrero, connect, and share any concerns you may have.

If you are worried about the wellbeing of a child you know, talk to us in confidence to find a path forward.

Te Ātea is our community-facing hub located in Whangārei.

We bring together local knowledge, professional expertise, and whānau voice to understand what is happening for tamaiti and their whānau to determine the most appropriate pathway forward.

What We Do

Whānau, community members and professionals can raise concerns, seek guidance and connect with the right people — before issues become more serious.

What we can help with:

  • Receive and respond to concerns about tamariki wellbeing from whānau, community members and professionals.
  • Provide advice and guidance when you are worried about a tamaiti and unsure what to do next.
  • Help you understand your options and identify the most appropriate pathway forward.
  • Walk alongside whānau to help navigate services, systems and next steps.
  • Work alongside Oranga Tamariki where statutory knowledge, advice or involvement may be required.
  • Connect whānau with education, health, social and community-based support.
  • Support professionals and community organisations in understanding the pathways available to tamariki and whānau.
  • Support people in understanding and navigating the Report of Concern process.

Need Urgent Help?

Te Ātea is not an emergency service. If you believe a tamaiti or anyone else is in immediate danger, or there is an immediate risk to their safety, please call 111.

For concerns that are not an immediate emergency, you can contact the Te Ātea team for advice, guidance and support with the next steps.

Collaborative Workspace

More Than A Referral Point

Te Ātea Hub is also a space for collaboration. We bring together professionals and community organisations for training, wānanga, and shared learning — so that everyone working alongside tamariki and whānau in Te Tai Tokerau is better connected, better supported, and working from the same kaupapa.
